Offtakers & Cooperatives
Weather protection for the farmers who supply you, settled at your point of delivery and creating additional revenue for your business.

When Weather Strikes, Supply Chains Feel It
Extreme weather affects more than individual farms. When a season fails, offtakers face lower volumes across entire sourcing regions, and the farmers they depend on may lack the means to plant again. Relationships built over many years can weaken within a single season.
Volatile Volumes
Drought or excessive rainfall can sharply reduce deliveries, often across a whole sourcing region at the same time.
Slow Recovery After Shocks
Farmers who lose a harvest may sell productive assets and plant less, which lowers volumes in the following seasons as well.
Growing Due Diligence Requirements
Regulations such as the EU Deforestation Regulation require traceable, plot-level information on the origin of agricultural commodities.

What Your Suppliers Get
No Cash Before Planting
Farmers pay with a fixed share of the covered harvest, around 8 to 9 kg per 100 kg covered, agreed before the season.
Payouts Within Five Banking Days
When the index triggers, the payout reaches their mobile money or bank account within five banking days, without claim forms or field visits.
No Residual Debt in a Payout Year
In a payout year, the pledge is deducted from the payout. Farmers never owe cash, so they can replant and keep delivering to you.
Transparent Rules
Farmers choose their own level of cover, and triggers are published before the season. Questions and complaints go to an independent channel at Interscale, not to your delivery point.
You register participating farmers and settle their pledges at delivery, using processes you already operate.
You do not price the cover, and your administrative costs are reimbursed.
More Than a Resilient Supply Base
Taking part costs your business nothing and can open an additional source of income.
Your Costs Covered
The work of your teams in registering farmers and settling pledges is reimbursed each season, linked to farmer participation and delivery loyalty.
Up to 12% p.a.
You can also act as a liquidity partner. By acquiring receivables at the start of the season, you earn an indicative target yield of up to 12% p.a. on surplus liquidity, backed by the deliveries of your own suppliers.
Your Role in the Programme
Integrated into your existing sourcing and payment processes.
Before the Season
Register Farmers and Plots
Your field staff or cooperative register participating farmers and their plots, with support from Interscale.
Record the Pledges
Each farmer's pledged quantity of harvest is recorded in the shared receivables register.
Start of the Season
Agree a Reference Price
A forward agreement with you converts the pledged quantities into monetary claims at an agreed reference price.
Premiums Are Pre-Financed
The claims are acquired by investors, or by you as a liquidity partner, so the risk pool is funded before planting.
At Harvest
Normal Season: Retain at Delivery
You retain the pledged quantity from each farmer's first deliveries and pass the proceeds on to the holders of the receivables. Amounts due are calculated automatically from the register.
Extreme Weather: Nothing Further to Settle
Farmers receive their payout within five banking days, less their pledge. The settlement runs through the register, not through your teams.
Designed to Fit Your Operations
No Weather Risk on Your Balance Sheet
Weather risk is carried by a licensed insurer, reinsurers and guarantee partners.
Plot-Level Traceability
Plot and delivery records from registration support due diligence reporting, for example under the EU Deforestation Regulation.
Questions and Answers
What does the cover cost your suppliers?
The premium is a fixed quantity of harvest, agreed before the season, typically around 8 to 9 kg per 100 kg covered. It depends on the level of cover each farmer chooses and on the risk profile of the micro-region.
How are payouts triggered?
Payouts are parametric: they are triggered by an index for each micro-region, based on satellite data, modelled soil moisture and weather-station records. Parameters, thresholds for each stage of crop growth and payout amounts are published before the season starts.
What happens in a normal season?
You retain the pledged quantity from each farmer's first deliveries and remit the proceeds. Farmers are paid for their remaining deliveries as usual and owe nothing further.
Who carries the insurance risk?
The cover is issued by a licensed insurer and backed by reinsurers. Your business carries no weather risk; Interscale designs and operates the programme together with you.
How are farmer complaints handled?
Questions and complaints go to an independent channel at Interscale, not to your delivery points. Your field teams are not responsible for handling them.
